Full Description

Tetrasodium EDTA (CAS 64-02-8) is the tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, a general-purpose chelating (sequestering) agent. It binds polyvalent metal ions and is used across water treatment, detergents and cleaners, textiles, pulp and paper, and photographic processing.

Tetrasodium EDTA: Applications & Grades

Tetrasodium EDTA is the fully neutralized, most water-soluble EDTA salt, so it is the default chelant when a near-neutral to alkaline bath must sequester calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, and manganese. Typical duty: scale and metal-ion control in water treatment, hardness binding and stain prevention in HI&I cleaners and laundry, dye-bath and peroxide-bleach stabilization in textiles and pulp/paper, and trace-metal sequestration in personal care. Supplied as powder (typically 38–40% active as the salt) or as a ~39% solution.

Chelating Agents Compared

How tetrasodium EDTA stacks up against the chelants buyers most often weigh against it — useful when an operating pH, a biodegradability spec, or the target metal rules one in or out:

Newer GLDA and MGDA chelants are readily biodegradable drop-ins where an eco or regulatory spec excludes EDTA or DTPA. Need a different salt or a biodegradable alternative? See disodium EDTA and sodium gluconate, or send your target metal and pH on an RFQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EDTA-Na4 used for?

Tetrasodium EDTA (EDTA-4Na, CAS 64-02-8) is a general-purpose chelating (sequestering) agent that binds polyvalent metal ions. It is used in water treatment to control metal-ion interference, in detergents and cleaners to bind hardness ions, and as a sequestrant in textiles, pulp and paper, and photographic processing.

What is Na4EDTA?

Na4EDTA is the tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (CAS 64-02-8), molecular formula C10H12N2Na4O8 — the fully neutralized, highly water-soluble form of EDTA. It chelates calcium, iron, and heavy-metal ions in aqueous systems. Reference the CAS on RFQs to confirm identity.

What is the difference between EDTA-2Na and EDTA-4Na?

EDTA-2Na (disodium) is partially neutralized and dissolves in a mildly acidic range, while EDTA-4Na (tetrasodium) is fully neutralized, more alkaline, and more readily water-soluble. Choose the salt based on your operating pH and solubility needs. RawSource can quote either form against the CoA.

What is the difference between EDTA and EDTA-4Na?

EDTA refers to the free acid (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), which has limited water solubility, whereas EDTA-4Na is its tetrasodium salt with much higher solubility for direct use in aqueous baths. The chelating chemistry is the same; the salt form sets solubility and pH. Select per your process requirements.

How is EDTA-4Na supplied in bulk?

RawSource supplies tetrasodium EDTA (CAS 64-02-8) to water-treatment, detergent, textile, and paper manufacturers in bags, drums, and bulk formats under HS 2922.49, in powder or solution as specified. Grade, packaging, and MOQ are confirmed at quotation against the CoA. Submit a bulk RFQ with your required volume and form.
