Full Description

Bis(2-dimethylaminoethyl) ether (BDMAEE) is the workhorse blowing catalyst for flexible polyurethane foam — a highly blow-selective amine that strongly promotes CO2 generation and rise. Identity: CAS 3033-62-3.

What it is

BDMAEE (CAS 3033-62-3) is a liquid amino-ether. Its ether linkage and two dimethylamino groups make it one of the most strongly blow-selective amine catalysts, central to flexible-foam formulations.

How it catalyzes

It powerfully accelerates the blow reaction (water + isocyanate → CO2 + urea), giving fast rise; it is highly blow-selective, so it is paired with a gelling catalyst to control set. It is often supplied as a 70/30 solution in dipropylene glycol for handling.

Applications

BDMAEE is used mainly in flexible slabstock and molded polyurethane foam, with a gelling catalyst such as TEDA. The diluted form is BDMAEE in dipropylene glycol (70/30).

Forms, grades and handling

BDMAEE is supplied neat and as a 70/30 solution in dipropylene glycol, in drums, IBCs and bulk. Properties are typical reference values; the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for the lot you buy governs. Amine catalysts are typically corrosive and have a strong odor — handle per the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Each lot ships with CoA, TDS and SDS.

Bulk supply and RFQ

RawSource sources Bis direct from producers in bulk, with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Tell us your system (flexible/rigid foam, CASE), the reaction balance you need (gel vs blow), and any low-emission requirement, and we will quote the right catalyst or blend. See the full range and gel/blow selection logic in the polyurethane catalysts guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is bis(2-dimethylaminoethyl) ether (BDMAEE) used for?

BDMAEE (CAS 3033-62-3) is the workhorse strongly blow-selective amine catalyst for flexible polyurethane foam, driving the water-isocyanate reaction for CO2 generation and rise; it is paired with a gelling catalyst.

How is bulk BDMAEE supplied and quoted?

RawSource supplies BDMAEE in bulk with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Pricing is quote-based on grade and volume; submit an RFQ with your PU system and the gel/blow balance you need.

What is the REACH and TSCA regulatory status of Bis(2-dimethylaminoethyl) ether?

Bis(2-dimethylaminoethyl) ether (CAS 3033-62-3) is subject to U.S. TSCA Inventory requirements; supplying it into the EU requires valid REACH registration ((EC) No 1907/2006). RawSource cannot verify a third-party supplier's registrations — buyers should require documented TSCA and REACH compliance for their jurisdiction and volume (EC 221-220-5).
