Full Description

2-Methylpentamethylenediamine (MPMD) is a branched aliphatic diamine hardener giving longer pot life and lower color than short ethyleneamines, and is also a specialty monomer. Identity: CAS 15520-10-2.

What it is

2-Methylpentamethylenediamine (CAS 15520-10-2, also known as Dytek A-type) is a liquid branched diamine. The methyl branch lowers crystallinity and viscosity and extends pot life.

How it cures

Its primary amines cure epoxy at ambient temperature with a longer working time and lower color than ethyleneamines, useful in coatings and adhesives; it is also a monomer for specialty polyamides.

Applications

MPMD is used in epoxy coatings and adhesives (longer pot life, low color) and as a polyamide/curing monomer. Compare TETA and MCDA.

Forms, grades and handling

MPMD is supplied as a clear liquid in drums, IBCs and bulk. Properties are typical reference values; the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for the lot you buy governs. Amine curing agents are typically corrosive and can sensitize skin — handle per the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Each lot ships with CoA, TDS and SDS.

Bulk supply and RFQ

RawSource sources 2-Methylpentamethylenediamine direct from producers in bulk, with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Tell us your resin system, cure schedule (ambient or heat) and the properties you need (pot life, Tg, flexibility, chemical resistance), and we will quote the right hardener. See selection logic in the epoxy curing agents guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 2-methylpentamethylenediamine (MPMD) used for?

MPMD (CAS 15520-10-2) is a branched aliphatic diamine epoxy hardener giving longer pot life and lower color than ethyleneamines, used in coatings and adhesives, and a specialty polyamide monomer.

How is bulk MPMD supplied and quoted?

RawSource supplies MPMD in bulk with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Pricing is quote-based on grade and volume; submit an RFQ with your resin system and cure schedule.

What is the REACH and TSCA regulatory status of 2-Methylpentamethylenediamine (MPMD)?

2-Methylpentamethylenediamine (MPMD) (CAS 15520-10-2) is subject to U.S. TSCA Inventory requirements; supplying it into the EU requires valid REACH registration ((EC) No 1907/2006). RawSource cannot verify a third-party supplier's registrations — buyers should require documented TSCA and REACH compliance for their jurisdiction and volume (EC 239-556-6).
