Full Description

This morpholino alpha-aminoketone (often referred to as 379) is a very high-activity Type I photoinitiator for pigmented and imaging systems. It is among the most reactive aminoketones, used where strong cure of colored or imaged films is needed. Identity: PubChem / CAS 119344-86-4.

What it is

2-(Dimethylamino)-2-(4-methylbenzyl)-1-(4-morpholinophenyl)butan-1-one (CAS 119344-86-4) is a substituted morpholino-aminoketone, a pale-yellow solid. It is the high-activity member of the aminoketone family alongside 907 and 369.

How it cures

A Type I alpha-aminoketone that cleaves very efficiently under UV with absorption suited to pigmented and imaging systems. Its high activity makes it effective at lower loadings in demanding colored films; like other aminoketones it is managed for yellowing in clears.

Applications

Used in pigmented UV inks and coatings, color filters, photoresists and imaging, typically with a thioxanthone (ITX) and amine synergist; compare 907 and 369.

Forms, grades and handling

It is supplied as a pale-yellow powder. Photoinitiators are light-sensitive — store cool, dry and dark, away from light and ignition sources. Handle per the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS); each lot ships with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and Technical Data Sheet (TDS).

Bulk supply and RFQ

RawSource sources 2- direct from producers in bulk, with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Tell us your lamp (mercury or LED wavelength), system (clear or pigmented) and cure target, and we will quote the right grade. Compare the full range and selection logic in the photoinitiators guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 2-(dimethylamino)-2-(4-methylbenzyl)-1-(4-morpholinophenyl)butan-1-one used for?

Often called 379 (CAS 119344-86-4), it is a very high-activity Type I alpha-aminoketone used in pigmented UV inks and coatings, color filters and photoresists, usually with a thioxanthone and amine synergist.

How does it compare to 907 and 369?

All are morpholino alpha-aminoketones for pigmented/imaging systems; this one is among the most reactive, so it can work at lower loadings in demanding colored or imaged films.

How is bulk this aminoketone supplied and quoted?

RawSource supplies this aminoketone in bulk with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Pricing is quote-based on grade and volume; submit an RFQ with your target quantity.

What is the REACH and TSCA regulatory status of 2-(Dimethylamino)-2-(4-methylbenzyl)-1-butan-1-one?

2-(Dimethylamino)-2-(4-methylbenzyl)-1-butan-1-one (CAS 119344-86-4) is subject to U.S. TSCA Inventory requirements; supplying it into the EU requires valid REACH registration ((EC) No 1907/2006). RawSource cannot verify a third-party supplier's registrations — buyers should require documented TSCA and REACH compliance for their jurisdiction and volume (EC 438-340-0).
