Silicone Process Oils

Polydimethylsiloxane process fluids for mold release, dielectric heat transfer, and lubrication, plus amino-, vinyl-, and methyl-resin functional silicones for surface treatment and addition-cure systems.

Overview

Silicone fluids and additives are organosilicon (polysiloxane) polymers and oligomers built on a silicon–oxygen backbone, used across industrial manufacturing for low surface tension, thermal and oxidative stability, water repellency, lubricity, and defoaming and mold-release behavior over a broad viscosity range. The family spans non-reactive polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluids, volatile carrier siloxanes, functional (reactive) silicones, and silicone resins. RawSource sources these silicone fluids in bulk — drums, totes, and container loads — to specified viscosity, purity, and functionality.

Match the chemistry to the sub-application. Non-volatile PDMS fluids — Silicone Oil 5 cSt (Dimethicone, PDMS) and Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) Fluid — serve as lubricants, release agents, defoamers, and process aids where a stable, low-volatility film is wanted. Volatile siloxane carriers — Hexamethyldisiloxane (MM, HMDSO), Octamethyltrisiloxane (MDM), Decamethyltetrasiloxane (MD2M), Cyclopentasiloxane (D5), Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), and Methyl Trimethicone — act as fast-evaporating solvents and spreading fluids that leave minimal residue. For reactive or functional needs, Vinyl-Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane (Vinyl PDMS) is a base polymer for addition-cure silicone elastomers; Amino-Functional Silicone (aminosilicone) provides substantivity for fiber and surface finishing; and PEG-12 Dimethicone is a water-dispersible silicone surfactant and emulsifier. Silicone resins — Trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ Resin) as a film-forming and tackifying additive, and Polymethylsilsesquioxane as a matting and anti-tack powder — adjust film integrity and surface feel.

Frequently asked questions
What are silicone fluids used for in manufacturing?
Silicone fluids are PDMS process oils used for mold release and anti-stick, boundary lubrication and slip, dielectric and heat-transfer service, and substrate surface treatment. Their thermal stability, chemical inertness, and low surface tension are what make them useful across these jobs.
How do I specify a silicone fluid?
Specify by viscosity and by functionality. Viscosity (cSt) sets film behavior and is selected for the application, while functionality decides chemistry: inert PDMS for release and lubrication, amino-functional for surface bonding, vinyl-terminated for addition-cure systems, or methyl resin for high-temperature films. 'Silicone oil' alone is not a usable spec.
Are silicone fluids subject to regulatory restrictions?
Linear PDMS fluids and the amino, vinyl, and methyl-resin grades listed here are not restricted in the same way as volatile cyclic siloxanes. D4, D5, and D6 cyclics carry EU REACH Annex XVII restrictions and PBT/vPvB scrutiny and are not offered on this page. Confirm regulatory status for your application and jurisdiction.
Does RawSource supply silicone fluids and process oils in bulk?
Yes. RawSource sources PDMS silicone fluids and functional silicones in drums, totes, and IBCs, with documentation. Send the target viscosity, functionality (inert, amino, vinyl, or resin), and volume for a bulk RFQ.
