A monomeric hindered amine light stabilizer in which a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinol is esterified with C16-18 (stearic-type) fatty acids. The long fatty chains give it strong compatibility and easy dispersion in polyolefins along with an internal-lubrication effect, while the tetramethylpiperidine ring provides the radical-scavenging light stability characteristic of the HALS class

As a HALS it stabilizes polymers by intercepting the free radicals formed during photo- and thermo-oxidation, working through the self-regenerating nitroxyl cycle rather than UV absorption. The fatty-ester structure makes it especially easy to disperse in filled and pigmented compounds and contributes lubricity during processing, so it is frequently selected for polyolefins (PP, TPO), styrenics and engineering plastics where uniform distribution and compatibility matter. It is also used to extend the weathering life of ABS/ASA, polystyrene, polyamide, POM and polyurethane systems, typically in combination with UV absorbers and antioxidants
