Full Description

Pentamethyldipropylenetriamine (PMDPTA) is a strong blowing catalyst for polyurethane foam — a permethylated propylene-triamine that drives the water-isocyanate (blow) reaction, with a slightly different balance than PMDETA. Identity: CAS 3855-32-1.

What it is

PMDPTA (CAS 3855-32-1) is a liquid permethylated triamine based on propylene spacers. It is blow-selective and used where its profile suits the foam system.

How it catalyzes

It accelerates the blow reaction (water + isocyanate → CO2), with the propylene backbone giving a somewhat different reactivity/volatility than the ethylene analogue PMDETA. Balanced with a gelling catalyst.

Applications

PMDPTA is used in rigid and flexible polyurethane foam, with a gelling catalyst such as TEDA. Compare PMDETA.

Forms, grades and handling

PMDPTA is supplied as a clear liquid in drums, IBCs and bulk. Properties are typical reference values; the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for the lot you buy governs. Amine catalysts are typically corrosive and have a strong odor — handle per the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Each lot ships with CoA, TDS and SDS.

Bulk supply and RFQ

RawSource sources Pentamethyldipropylenetriamine direct from producers in bulk, with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Tell us your system (flexible/rigid foam, CASE), the reaction balance you need (gel vs blow), and any low-emission requirement, and we will quote the right catalyst or blend. See the full range and gel/blow selection logic in the polyurethane catalysts guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PMDPTA used for?

Pentamethyldipropylenetriamine (PMDPTA, CAS 3855-32-1) is a strong blowing catalyst for rigid and flexible polyurethane foam, accelerating the water-isocyanate reaction; it is balanced with a gelling catalyst.

How is bulk PMDPTA supplied and quoted?

RawSource supplies PMDPTA in bulk with CoA, TDS and SDS per lot. Pricing is quote-based on grade and volume; submit an RFQ with your PU system and the gel/blow balance you need.

What is the REACH and TSCA regulatory status of Pentamethyldipropylenetriamine (PMDPTA)?

Pentamethyldipropylenetriamine (PMDPTA) (CAS 3855-32-1) is subject to U.S. TSCA Inventory requirements; supplying it into the EU requires valid REACH registration ((EC) No 1907/2006). RawSource cannot verify a third-party supplier's registrations — buyers should require documented TSCA and REACH compliance for their jurisdiction and volume (EC 223-362-3).
