造膜剤・セット剤

造膜剤は、毛髪や肌の上で乾燥して連続した皮膜を形成するポリマーで、化粧品ではINCI上の造膜機能およびスタイリング保持（セット）機能のために用いられます。 ここで扱う化学品は、柔軟なセット力を与える水溶性または水分散性のセット樹脂（VP/VA copolymer、Polyquaternium-11）と、洗い流すタイプの製品やメイクアップ製品で不透明性と連続皮膜を与えるアクリル系およびスチレン系エマルション共重合体（styrene/acrylates系）という2つの機能グループに分かれます。

VP/VA copolymer is the reference styling-fixative resin and dissolves in hydroalcoholic and aqueous systems. The genuine trade-off across this family is hold strength against feel: a higher fixative load raises stiffness but can read as tacky or flaky and lowers humidity tolerance. A practical route is to combine a fixative resin with a plasticizer or a cationic conditioning polymer, then set the resin level by sensory and hold testing rather than by maximum addition.

Polyquaternium-11 is a cationic film former carrying the catalog roles Conditioning and Film Formation, which makes it substantive on hair. Tricontanyl PVP is a wax-compatible, oil-phase film former (catalog roles: Film Formation, Moisture Control, Viscosity Modification) used in anhydrous and gloss systems. The two styrene/acrylates copolymers are emulsion polymers that add opacity and a continuous film; specify the crosslinked divinylbenzene grade where a firmer, less soluble film is wanted.
